Water forms in compressed air because atmospheric air contains water vapor. Compression heats the air, and cooling after compression causes that vapor to condense inside aftercoolers, receiver tanks, piping and treatment equipment.
Water appears in compressed air when hot, moisture-laden compressed air cools below its pressure dew point. The solution is to cool and drain bulk water early, remove entrained liquid with separators, and use the correct air dryer for the required dew point.
