The right compressed air filter depends on what must be removed, where the filter is installed and how much pressure drop the system can tolerate. This guide compares particulate, coalescing and activated carbon filtration.
Use a particulate filter for solid contamination, a coalescing filter for fine oil and water aerosols, and activated carbon filtration when the application requires additional vapor or odor reduction. Size every filter for peak corrected CFM and acceptable pressure drop.

Use peak corrected airflow so the component performs during the highest real demand.
Dirty or undersized components can reduce downstream pressure and increase compressor energy use.
