Air Technologies® saves manufacturer $22,000 in electric power

Air Technologies® has helped an Ohio tool and die company improve its compressed air efficiency and reliability, lower energy costs and better manage its compressed air system.

Kuttler Machine was experiencing reliability problems with its air compressors, which were causing significant downtime and quality issues. The company was operating three rotary screw air compressors to power a sand blasting operation. One unit was a 100 hp load no load unit and two units were 75 hp modulating compressors. All three machines were running continuously, consuming significant electric power. There was also a considerable amount of water in the system, which contributed to downtime and quality issues.

Air Technologies® assessed the situation and recommended the solution of compressed air as a utility called DirectAIR®. The DirectAIR® solution has proven to increase system efficiency and dramatically reduce energy costs by supplying compressed air on-demand as a utility.

Air Technologies® installed a DirectAIR® module with two Atlas Copco GA90 125 hp rotary screw air compressors, including one variable speed drive (VSD) unit and one fixed speed unit. The DirectAIR® solution provided Kuttler Machine a guaranteed supply of the compressed air they specifically required at the lowest possible cost. Managed by Air Technologies®, the new energy-efficient equipment and controls ultimately saved Kuttler Machine $22,000 in electric power, eliminated the water, and improved uptime and reliability.

In addition to the $22,000 in energy cost savings, FirstEnergy, a diversified energy company headquartered in Akron, Ohio, awarded Kuttler Machine with a $22,000 reimbursement for energy efficiency improvement, doubling the savings from Air Technologies®’s expert solution.

Air Technologies® customers are continuously discovering increased efficiency and energy cost savings with DirectAIR®, which has provided customers with over 3 million hours of continuous operation. Contact Air Technologies® to improve your compressed air system today!
